The annual ASCO convention in Chicago is beginning in less than three weeks, and we’re looking forward to see what’s in store for us this year. ASCO has released several sneak-peaks of breaking sessions, as well as a preview of what to expect from educational and scientific sessions.

With this year’s theme of Caring for Every Patient, Learning from Every Patient, there will be a major focus on improving patient care, driving advancement, and increasing the reach of efficacious care for all patients in need. Along with patient-focused learnings, the ever-changing oncologic landscape brings many new and diverse sessions. Here are some we have our eyes on:

  • Clinical Science Symposia
    • Fine-Tuning Checkpoint Inhibition: Biomarkers of Response and Resistance
    • Evidence, Care, Impact: Making Inroads Against Cancer Disparities
  • Educational Program
    • Overcoming Barriers to Clinical Trial Enrollment
    • Effective Cancer Pain Management in an Era of Opioid Aberrancy
    • Recognizing, Understanding, and Overcoming Toxicities from Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors
  • Workshops
    • How to Initiate and Integrate Clinical Trials Into Your Practice
    • Genomics for Oncologists 101
  • Global Health Track
    • Many Shades of Disparities in Myeloma Care
    • ASCO/ESMO Joint Session: Global Access to Essential Medicines
    • Implementing Palliative and Supportive Care in Cancer Care Worldwide
    • Choosing the Right Induction Regimen for Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma

This year’s 40,000 attendees have many sessions to choose from; out of the 6,200 abstracts submitted, 2,450 were selected for presentation in Oral Abstract Sessions, Poster Sessions, and Clinical Science Symposia, with an additional 3,200 for online publication. While immunotherapy and targeted therapies are again represented well, new abstracts on the latest breakthroughs in gene therapy and other novel treatment approaches will be presented. Post-Plenary Sessions are new this year and will be focused on the clinical application of each session to foster discussion around clinical cases, new guidelines, and amendments to patient populations. There is much to look forward to at this year’s convention, so plan your schedules today!
